So I was working on a response to the comments on yesterday’s post, but then my boss called and wants to take me to the Twins game. Lata!!! Wahoooo!
Back tomorrow with the response.
In the meantime, enjoy some Onion (which I find delightful.)

Gentlemen and perhaps lady, I must apologize for my disappearing act as of late...I have been in the middle of a move this week as well as trying to reboot things on my laptop. But things are getting back to normal, and late night is always with you bloggers. I love reading this alcohol dialogue. I am rather torn as I see the ethics involved but have also been in situations of impairment. I have always thought that the lines are gray in this matter. Biblically, we deal with both Jesus celebrating and drinking alcohol and then Paul warning the church of being "drunkards". I believe that this is one of those topics within Christian ethics where we must excercize our own personal caution. It is not black and white, and to turn it into a black and white matter would be legalism (which is not a gray matter. Legalism is sinful). Paul speaks of some matters of ethics/morals which we could categorize in the "to each her/his own." Alcohol consumption is one of those. Romans 14:2-4-
One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. 4Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
This clearly illustrates that alcohol consumption is case by case. If you read further in romans 14 you would see that it says in whatever you do, do not let it make your bro/sis stumble. That is what is important.
Conclussion: No one can tell another what is too much. Where do we determine what drunk is? If I have a buzz but act completely normal have I sinned? Do I have to do stupid things to consider myself drunk? Then, wouldn't the sin be the stupid stuff I was doing. It's not the booze that's bad, its what you do when influenced by it. If you are not negatively affected by it how is it bad?
Question for Werd: Do you think the act of drinking is wrong, or is it what you engage in while under the influence?
PS Thank God for Werd's perspective!
I do not think the act of drinking is wrong. The things that you are engaged in while under the influence (if they are sinful) are wrong, but I don't think it makes it ok to say, "I am going to get drunk and just go to bed/pass out so I don't do anything sinful." Becoming drunk is a sin.
