I realize I’ve been pretty quiet concerning the Michael Vick fiasco. I’ve got a bit of a soft-spot for animals, dogs in particular, and the whole thing disgusts me to no end. I’d be thrilled if I never heard another word about it, particularly the grizzly details, but it’s apparently unavoidable. I suppose Vick’s the biggest animal there is, so maybe I should have more of a soft spot for him. Plus, everyone else in the blogosphere has given their two cents and I’d hate to be a step behind.Michael Vick, prepare to feel the wrath of the Zot.
What got me fired up is this story from ESPN reporting that Vick is remorseful and has apologized for his actions: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2992890.
To Hell with that. I understand this runs contrary to my Christian tenets, but Michael Vick doesn’t now, nor will he ever, deserve our forgiveness. The cruelty with which he treated those dogs (subjecting them to electrocutions, beatings and brutal fights. Killing underperformers by hanging or drowning them) offers conclusive proof that he is a savage completely detached from the sanctity of life. At the most severe, Vick deserves no better treatment than those dogs received. At the very least he should be locked up in a sanitarium, barred from contact with normally functioning human beings. If one has no compassion, no morals, no ethics, then one ceases to be human and becomes a beast. It simply isn’t safe or prudent to have monsters like him interacting with society.
Vick has been suspended indefinitely by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for violating the league’s gambling policy. At this point are we really worried about the gambling policy? 50 some dogs were confiscated at Vick’s Surry County property. Vick and his cohorts had turned these dogs into blood-thirsty killing machines. One of your league’s biggest stars is slaughtering man’s best friend in the backyard and burying the corpses under the tool shed. I think there are bigger problems here than the gambling policy. You know who else shows a penchant for cruelty to animals? Serial killers. We’re talking about a disturbed and depraved individual.
Vick has assured us that he didn’t personally place any bets or share in the winnings, he merely provided the funding for others to do so. Does he think we’re all morons? He gave other people money to gamble with, but didn’t share in the winnings? Bullshit. And now it’s been two weeks and he sees the error of his ways? All of a sudden he realizes just how horrible dog fighting is and renounces it forever? Once again, bullshit. His estranged father came out of the woodwork and announced he’s been telling Vick for years to give up dog fighting, to no avail. Why should we believe that things are now any different?
My favorite part is how Vick has found Jesus as a result of the charges. Often we hear of excruciatingly difficult and trying conversion experiences. I’m happy to hear it was so easy for Michael Vick.
At least he’s aksing for our forgiveness. Dumbass. But we’d be even dumber if we believe a word this guy says.

I'm back. We just moved into our new house and I don't have access to internet besides at my school.
I think people are putting too much on this Michael Vick thing. I know what he did was cruel and he shouldn't have done it, but I am going to take the other side on this argument. There are much worse things going on in this world and one of them is people hurting/killing other people. This dog issue is sad but come on, they are just dogs. (Yep, I said it).
I beleive that his apology was heart felt and he did really mean it. He wasn't reading any notes and who knows, maybe he did really find Jesus. Who is to say he didn't? If this is what it takes to save another soul, so be it. Six dogs is worth another Christian on his way to heaven. People find Christ in very weird ways and there is a reason for everything.
Lastly, I love watching this guy play. He is sweet! No other quarter back moves like this guy.
Anyway, I can't beleive that media spends so much time on this story. What's done is done, let's move on.
I am on middle ground I believe from where The Zot and Werd are. I don't quite feel the same wrath and resentment as Zot, but I also do not take it as lightly as Werd.
I don't believe most of what Michael vick has said. Yes, he is remorseful, but not because he is sorry about dog fighting, but he is sorry that he got caught and ruined his career.
As far as him finding Jesus, I got a really good laugh out of it when i heard him say it, but I am going to leave that between him and God and hold judgement.
As far as forgiving him, I already do. Whether his apology was sincere or not ( I guess this makes me a better Christian than Gruber ;) JK) I do think he needs to serve all punishments that a normal person who has done what he did would. I also think this should hurt his career. It would ruin the life of a normal person, why shouldn't it for him? He is an adult, he knew what he was doing, and he should pay the consequences.
Am I saying that nobody should ever give him a second chance? No, but I am saying it shouldn't be without caution and before he has paid his piece to society.
One last thing, I did like the point you made, Gruber, about mass killers starting with animals and dogs, because that is so true!
Pat is a better Christian than Zot....
I am angry like Zot....Let's hang this guy out to dry. He's got no business anywhere in society than on the streets. He is a liar and let us remember that he is a role model for thousands upon thousands of kids. What kind of low life tortures dogs for fun? And on the side he earns millions and is the motivation for many young kids' football careers. Throw him out. He's done. I hope he did find Jesus. He just has to pay his price for being a detriment to society.
On another note: When it comes right down to it, Vick used "finding Jesus" to soften the blow. Now that is wrong. He cheaply throws that out there with to illustrate his change.
The true test would be if Vick got the boot from the NFL, would he be out feeding the poor, going to church, serving others? Being a Christian even though it would benefit his NFL career?
Let's take a Zot poll. WHo thinks Vick would be a Christian if didn't benefit his career?

I would have to place myself somewhere in the middle of Pat and Grubs/Cassel on this one.
I really think that one of the reasons this is such a huge story is because it really does have a large impact on a lot of different people. The biggest and most important is the kids around the world that look up to Michael Vick.
I myself never really looked up to him, but i know that i loved watching him play football. So many kids want to be just like him and for him to do this is just unbelivable. I think that's what pisses me off most of all.
Then he says that he was just immature, and of course has to explain what that means as if we don't know. He's seriously such an idiot. But let's be honest even when i was at my most immature i still new killing dog's was wrong.
I also love the support he gets and people like Jamie Foxx who said that many Black people don't realize it's wrong to kill dogs because it's a part of their culture (i heard that in passing so don't quote me, but i think i got it right). Retarded...that's all i can say about that.
As for finding Christ through all of this...I'm gonna have to side with Pat on this one. As much as i want to say he's full of shit, which he is about a lot of stuff, i just can't say that about finiding Christ. It is true that people find Christ in different ways. So i'll have to sit back on this one and leave it to God.
About them "only being dog's", well that's bullshit. I understand that Dog's are animals and they don't have souls, but anybody that has had a dog or animal knows that they still feel pain. And to drown, electrocute, and hang dogs. Well thats just F'ed Up. I don't thing those guys should be hung/killed, but a nice prison sentance where they can be treated like dog's is a good solution in my opinion.
